About 75th Anniversaries
75 years is a long time to be married, because it means you have probably lived more than 90 years, which is, in itself, somewhat unusual. The 75th wedding anniversary is known as the diamond anniversary. It is also quite common to celebrate the 75th anniversary of an event or of the first time a product was created or the first time a character appeared on TV or in a comic book or on the radio.

History
-
Germans in medieval times celebrated their 25th and 50th wedding anniversaries by giving gifts made of silver and gold, respectively. It is not known how long other important milestones have been associated with specific gems or valuable minerals. In 1937, the American National Retail Jewelry Association drew up a list that included every year through the 15th year of marriage and then every five years after that, and this list has led to the tradition of associating various items with specific milestones, including the association of diamonds with the 75th anniversary.
More Than One Diamond
-
There are at least two diamond wedding anniversaries, and maybe more. One is the 60th anniversary and the other is the 75th. Diamonds have been connected with the 75th anniversary for quite a long time. The association of diamonds with a 60th anniversary began in 1897 when Queen Victoria of England celebrated her 60th year as Queen, calling it her "Diamond Jubilee." Since this occasion, the 60th anniversary has also been known as a diamond anniversary. Some lists also name the 65th anniversary as a diamond anniversary.

Gift Ideas
-
It is not necessary to actually give a couple diamonds when they celebrate their 75th wedding anniversary. A family photo in a frame that contains a small diamond is a good idea. Or another photo idea is a double frame that contains a wedding photo and a recent photo of the couple. A quilt that uses a diamond pattern would be an excellent choice for a quilter to give the couple. White roses called diamond white roses are another choice, according to HappyAnniversary.com.
