Locker Room Attendant Job Description

Locker Room Attendant Job Description thumbnail
A locker room attendant keeps facilities clean and provides good customer service.

Upscale gyms, elite bathhouses and posh spas often have locker room attendants who are there to help with a variety of needs that may arise in the locker room. While a locker room attendant’s job is not complicated and requires few to no specialized skills, a sunny disposition and willingness to help are usually desired traits.

  1. Definition

    • A locker room attendant is permanently stationed in the locker room to attend to the needs of patrons using the locker room and any attached facilities, such as lap pool or spa.

    Duties

    • The duties of the locker room attendant include making sure that the locker room area is clean, assigning dressing rooms, maintaining and assigning locker space, issuing locker keys, and supplying patrons with towels or similar items they may need. He may also arrange for certain valet services, like shoe shining and clothes pressing. He may also be tasked with collecting fees for services or for use of the facility.

    Requirements

    • While few formal skills are required for this position, most establishments that make use of locker room attendants cater to wealthier, educated clients. For this reason, such establishments may prefer someone with at least a basic high school education or equivalent, who can properly communicate with clients. Additionally, a keen eye for details is often a desired trait, since the locker room attendant must keep the facility in top shape.

    Pay

    • Because not many formal skills or education is required to be a locker room attendant, the pay tends to be low. According to MyPlan.com, in 2008, locker room attendants averaged wages in the low $20,000s.

    Considerations

    • This job is particularly well suited to individuals who enjoy interacting with others, providing good customer service and being in a non-office work environment. Many companies that hire locker room attendants make use of part-time employees, so this job may also be a good fit for individuals who have full-time employment but want to make extra money.
