A realty specialist is a position found in various agencies of the United States government. A person in this role serves the government in an advisory capacity. He counsels his employing agency in multiple aspects of the management of its real property. This may include suggesting appropriate uses for vacant land or office space. In addition, he ensures that all government property is used in the manner for which it is zoned and within the scope of any regulating laws.

Earnings

  • A 2010 job posting by the United States Department of Energy indicated that the average annual salary paid to a realty specialist ranges from $30,722 to $62,965. Compensation is based upon education and experience.

  • As federal employees, these professionals are entitled to all benefits administered by the United States Office of Personnel Management. Comprehensive health and retirement plans are available. Eligibility Requirements

  • In order to qualify for employment as a realty specialist, an applicant must be a citizen of the United States. In addition, a male born after December 31, 1959 must have certified registration with the Selective Service. Depending on the agency in question and the level of responsibility, a candidate may also be required to successfully pass a criminal background check and a drug screening test so that a security clearance can be granted.

  • The United States government has specific processes that an applicant must follow in order to apply for the job of a realty specialist. If a candidate is currently or has previously been employed with the federal government, he must submit an SF-50 form, which indicates his most recent performance appraisal. In addition, a veteran must submit a copy of his Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty. Applications may be submitted via the Office of Personnel Management’s career website, USAJobs.gov.

  • Once an application has been received for the job of realty specialist, candidates are evaluated based upon a variety of criteria. The initial assessment come from the answers a candidate gives when filling out the online application. These responses are cross-referenced for verification with the candidate’s resume. Once this is accomplished, professional and educational experience are rated and verified. Those who falsify information risk being barred from federal employment.
