How Effective Is Enzara?

How Effective Is Enzara? thumbnail
Bacteria vaginosis can be embarrassing.

When the normal balance of healthy bacteria within the vagina is replaced by an overabundance of other bacteria, itching, discomfort, discharge and odor can occur, resulting in a vaginal infection. Bacteria vaginosis (BV) is a common vaginal infection among women. Although BV can clear up on its own, treatment is recommended, as bacteria can linger void of symptoms. BV is caused by a vaginal pH imbalance as a result of douching, entrapped moisture and new or multiple sexual partners. According to Medicine Net, it is sexually transmittable, though women who are not sexually active may still suffer from BV. Enzara, also known as Destinol, is one of many topical treatments for BV. Reviews have been affirmative regarding the use of Enzara, but scientific support has not yet been provided to justify such claims.

  1. Effective Ingredients

    • Enzara (Destinol) ingredients include natum muriaticum 6x, carbolicum acidum 6x, coriander seed, dicalcium phosphate, lactose USP, parsley herb and sage leaf. These ingredients are considered effective for killing off "bad bacteria." The natural herbs included restore the pH balance to accommodate healthy bacteria. According to Cure Some, Destinol is recommended three times daily before bed. Women taking Destinol should remain hydrated during treatment.

    Claimed Benefits

    • According to Enzara.com: "What’s unique about Enzara is it doesn’t mask the smell like an ordinary deodorant does, but eliminates the odor from the root, once and for all. ... The natural ingredients ... eliminate itching, swelling and that fishy vaginal odor." Although it has not be approved by the Food and Drug Administration, Enzara claims a nearly 95 percent success rate.

    Safety

    • According to Cure Some: "Destinol is a natural dietary supplement that contains no additives, fillers or lubricants. There are no known negative side effects. Of course, as with any dietary supplement, women with special medical conditions are encouraged to consult their physician before use. Pregnant women should always consult their physician before using Destinol. ... We recommend consulting a physician if you have concerns about drug interaction." Destinol and Enzara do not guarantee any effects or noneffects of their products.

    Prevention of BV

    • Enzara and limited sexual partners can prevent BV.
Enzara and limited sexual partners can prevent BV.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, scientists have yet to gain total understanding of bacteria vaginosis, and therefore provide little to no real solution. "It is known that BV is associated with having a new sex partner or having multiple sex partners," the CDC says. Therefore, abstinence, limited sexual partners and avoidance of douching are recommended as methods of prevention by the CDC.

    Enzara Cost and Purchase

    • As of 2010, the average cost of Enzara ranges from approximately $35 to $55 and is easily purchased on-line. Women who have had previous diagnoses of BV are usually more aware of BV symptoms. For women who are uncertain of their symptoms, a gynecological exam is recommended. Consultation of a physician is also recommended for women considering Enzara for the first time.
