Understanding Stock Trading
Stock trading is a common and popular form of investing that can be done by both small and large investors. Those with just a little bit of money can invest in the stocks the same way those with a large amount of funds can.
To be successful in stock trading you need to understand how stock trading happens.
-
History
-
Online trading and stock-price access has brought stock trading to the masses. The stock market has been a place for financial investing in the United States since the 1800s, with the 1920s being the era when stock trading truly took off. The Great Crash of 1929 was the first time that those who had been enjoying success trading stock had a dose of reality as to how quickly the market could turn out of favor.
Subsequent crashes in 1987 and 2008 further showed investors that stock trading was a way of investing that required participants to be aware of their investments and the world around them.
Up until online trading became common and affordable, most serious stock trading was reserved for those with enough money to have a stock broker to make the trades on their behalf.
Stock trading has been an active and attractive form of investing for decades and today's world of online and instant trading has brought stock trading in to the hands of many who could not afford to do so before.
Significance
-
Stock prices fluctuate on a daily basis; few stocks stay the same price for any amount of time. Stock trading is a significant part of the economy, both in the United States and globally, as it is a way for business and corporations to keep the economy going as their businesses earn money through selling ownership shares through stock trades.
Trading stocks is a way for investors to buy shares of companies and then either hold on to those shares if a company is performing well and paying dividends or move their money out of those stocks and into another.
There is a constant and continual shifting of share positions in the market, and the bulk of that is done by large traders who earn money by jumping around and profiting from the slightest gains and losses, as they have enough shares, so even slight share-price changes equate to large sums of money being made.

Features
-
Features of stock trading include the ability to manage and monitor your investments at will. If you know which stocks you own, what you paid for them and what they are valued at now, it is easy to see whether your investment has been growing in value.
Other investment products such as real estate do not provide as fast a view into their current worth. Stock trading allows for investors to move their money around through buying and selling stock to create portfolios that provide them with a good mix of stocks in a variety of companies.
Considerations
-
Stock trading can vary between big swings in a positive direction to negative stock prices quickly. Considerations to keep in mind in stock trading is that returns on the amount of money initially invested should go up over time, but the potential always exists to come out of a stock, after selling off shares, with less money than initially invested.
This happens when a stock trades below the value it was purchased at. Though this occurs sometimes due to major events and economic conditions, sometimes it is a result of a company being managed and run improperly.
Regardless of how a stock decreases in value, it is something investors need to keep in mind before investing or partaking in stock trading.
Potential
-
The potential exists for well-informed and active investors to do well with their investments through stock trading. Those who view stock trading as an active form of investing monitor their holdings and the market overall and make decisions based on a variety of reasons as to whether to buy stock, buy more shares of a stock, sell shares or maintain their current positions.
Those investors who have found a good performing stock have been able to realize good profits by knowing when to buy and sell.
