Keep your bathroom decor similar to your bedroom decor.

Decorating your bedroom and bathroom can sometimes seem a bit challenging because of all the options available to you. There are some aspects to think about that can make the choices easier to make. For example, considering who uses the bathroom and what the décor of the bedroom is will help guide your selections. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Bathrooms

    • Is the bathroom a guest room or is it a master bathroom? This is an important question. Master bathrooms should typically have his and her's sinks and plenty of counter space. If it is a child's bathroom, it should be decorated differently than if it is an adult's bathroom. Add color in your bathroom by adding rugs, artwork and towels. Be careful when choosing a wall color because the color will reflect on your skin and make it appear a different color. Red and green are colors to stay away from.

    Bedrooms

    • The older you get the more important it is to create a relaxing space in your bedroom. With age should come sophistication so reflect this in your decorating choices. Warm, earthy colors, such as light sage green, shades of brown and eggshell white are good for adult bedrooms. For a child's room, you can use bold, bright colors for a vibrant atmosphere, or pastels for a softer feel. If you are having trouble deciding how to decorate a room, find an object you love and plan to include in the decor, like a statue, artwork or bedding set. Pick your color scheme around that object.

    Location

    • Take into account where the bathroom is in relation to the bedroom. If they are connected, as master bedrooms and baths commonly are, then consider whether you want a door or some sort of barrier between the rooms. Many people like their privacy, so this is an important decision. Most bathrooms have doors, but some have no door between the bathroom and the bedroom. If you don't want a door, consider hanging some sheer curtains that can be parted when not in use. These will give you more privacy.

    Space

    • Look at how much space is available in the bathroom and decorate accordingly. If there are no shelves or little cabinet and counter space, you will probably have to add some. Use cabinet units that match any décor and can be found in any price range. The same applies for the bedroom. Be sure there is adequate storage for all of your needs. If there is little floor space, install shelves that fit in the corners or along walls. Make them high enough so they are out of the way, but not so high that you cannot reach them. Baskets are another way tasteful to provide storage in bathrooms and bedrooms. Fill them with magazines and books if you have nowhere for those items to go.

    Considerations

    • If the bathroom and bedroom are connected, try to keep the décor universal. For example, if your bedroom has a tropical décor and you cross a doorway, you should not be walking into a country style bathroom. Keep attached rooms similar. If they are not connected, you have more room to move with the decor.
