Hair straightening treatments leave the hair flat and smooth.

Women with curly hair sometimes want to wear it straight. Until recently, the only way to do this was by using a comb and a hair dryer. This method works but, when it is humid outside, the effect will not last long. Today there are many hair straightening treatments that can be used to make the hair smooth and flat. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Flat Iron

    • Flat irons use heat to straighten the hair and are used after washing your hair. Repetitively combing the hair and using the flat iron will dry and straighten the hair. Depending on the type of hair you have, it could be time-consuming. The cost of a flat iron varies depending on the style and make.

    Hair Relaxer

    • A hair relaxer is a lotion that, when applied to the hair, makes it less curly. The lotion reacts with the hair causing it to relax and become straight. Relaxers remove natural oils from the hair, so it is a good idea to condition the hair after using a relaxer. Relaxers can be purchased at drug stores and can be used at home.

    Brazil Keratin Hair Straightening Treatment

    • A popular treatment for straightening hair is the Brazil keratin hair treatment. This treatment uses keratin and a flat iron to repair and strengthen the hair while making it soft and shiny. Keratin is a protein that is made up of sulfur and cystine. It is said to penetrate both the inside and outside of the hair and repair any damage. This process can take up to two hours, depending on the length of the hair. Service for this treatment can range from $300 to $600.

    Japanese Hair Straightening Treatment

    • Japanese hair straightening applies a series of conditioners, relaxers and neutralizers as well as heat to change the chemical bonds in the hair, leaving the hair smooth and straight. Treatment can cost anywhere from $300 to $800, depending on the salon. The treatment takes from four to six hours.

    Disclaimer

    • The Brazilian keratin and Japanese hair straightening treatments are considered "permanent" but, as with permanent hair color, the hair will return to its normal state in two to three months after keratin treatment or up to six months after the Japanese treatment. Hair relaxers need to be applied every six weeks. The use of a flat iron is not a permanent solution, as the next time the hair is washed, it will return to its natural state.
