"Age of Mythology: The Titans" increases the size and scope of Ensemble Studios' original "Age of Mythology" game by adding a host of characters, powers and items from the period of ancient Greek mythology documenting the battles between the gods and their children, the Titans. The game is a 3-D program with a considerable depth of data and options, so problems with the title are not unheard of.

  1. Insufficient Hardware

    • Most modern computers should run "Age of Mythology: The Titans," but the game is powerful enough to present problems for some machines. The first and most obvious requirement is that the game requires the original "Age of Mythology" to be installed on your computer before it will install or run. The game requires a machine with a processor of at least 450 MHz clock speed, and 128 Mb system RAM. For online play, a 56.6 Kbps (Kilobytes per second) modem is required. Modern broadband and wireless routers are more than adequate.

    Compatibility

    • "Age of Mythology: The Titans" has been declared incompatible with Microsoft Windows Vista and Windows Seven by its designers, Ensemble Studios, and distributors, Microsoft themselves. It is unlikely that the game will install or run in these operating systems, even if compatibility mode is enabled.

    Online and Performance Issues

    • At the time of release, "Age of Mythology: The Titans" was not fully compatible with online play, and displayed some graphics issues and freezing or crashing tendencies. A patch was released that improved the game's connection with Ensemble Studios' online game servers, also tweaking the game code to improve performance. This patch should automatically install when the game is loaded, provided your computer is connected to the Internet. However, if the patch does not automatically install, it can be downloaded.

    Crashing and Freezing

    • Installations of "Age of Mythology: The Titans" can become corrupted if the game is installed on a machine with little disc space or if the computer in question has a virus or too many other programs running at the time of installation. If your copy of "Age of Mythology: The Titans" crashes or freezes even after installing the game update patch, try uninstalling "Age of Mythology" and "The Titans." Run a virus scan on your machine and close nonessential programs. Delete unused programs and files so your machine has at least 1GB of free space, then reinstall the game and expansion.

    Slow Performance

    • "Age of Mythology: The Titans" runs best if it is not competing for memory with other applications. A lack of memory can cause graphical glitches, slowdown during game play, and loss of player control. To increase the amount of memory available to the game, hold "Alt" and press "Tab." Close other programs from your computer's desktop so "Age of Mythology" is the only item on the Windows task bar, then click the task bar to resume play with smoother graphics and game play.
