Arctic Cat Prowler Information
Arctic Cat currently offers five models in its Prowler line. The biggest difference among the models in the majority of the line is power; other amenities and towing capacity remain the same. The HDX700, which has been introduced for 2011, features significant across-the-board changes from previous Prowler models. Different color schemes are available on all models.

Function
-
The Arctic Cat Prowler line of UTVs (utilitarian all-terrain vehicles) are built not only to handle tough terrain easily, but also to hold heavy loads and two people while doing it. This type of vehicle is sometimes referred to as a side-by-side, because traditional ATVs can only safely handle one rider at a time. Prowlers can carry weight onboard, as well as having the capacity to tow other vehicles behind them.
Types
-
As of June 2010, Arctic Cat offers the following models in the Prowler line: XT550, XTX700, XTZ1000, XT550 (2011 model), and the HDX700 (2011 model). Previous Prowlers may be available through local dealers with old stock on hand, or through the secondhand market.

Features
-
The XT550 base Prowler has 10-inch ground clearance and gas-powered shocks to support its suspension travel while going over rough terrain. All gauges are digital, and it features the ability to switch from two-wheel to four-wheel drive by pressing a button. It also features a front differential lock to enhance traction. It can carry 600 lbs. in its onboard cargo box and has additional storage under the hood. Finally, it is rated to tow up to 1,500 lbs. via included 2-inch receiver hitches on both the front and the back.
The XTX700 has all the same features as the XT550, but is slightly more powerful and has a tilting steering wheel for added driver comfort. It also features 14-inch polished aluminum wheels, which are not available if a buyer chooses the camouflage color scheme.
The XTZ1000 has a slightly larger engine than the XTX700, but otherwise has all the same features. The gauges have both digital and analog displays available, and different paint schemes are available. Some sport accents feature on this Prowler as well, including a sport steering wheel and hood scoop.
The 2011 XT550 model seems to sport all the same features as its predecessor. The 2011 HDX700 features Fox Float coil-over shocks, which add the ability to bolster a user's shocks based on the weight of whatever is being carried. It also features a second passenger seat, bringing the total rider capacity to three. The cargo box tilts for easy loading and unloading, and is reconfigurable to fit users' needs. It has several additional cargo compartments, a dashboard-mounted shift lever for easy access, a park option and power steering.
Sizes
-
Engine displacement is the key to deciphering the model numbers for Arctic Cat Prowlers. For instance, XT550s (including the 2011 model) have 545cc engines, but displacement is always rounded up. All Prowler models feature a 75-inch wheelbase, except the HDX700, which features an 85-inch wheelbase.
Considerations
-
Prices of the various Prowlers range from $11,000 to $13,800. Price, trim levels and displacement seem to be the main deciding factors among all Prowler models apart from the HDX700.
