Medicinal properties in rose oil.

The liver is one of the most vitally functioning and overworked organs in the body, second to the heart. Its systemic duty includes elimination of toxins and other waste from the body (post digestion). It also aids the process of blood oxygenation and circulation. Malfunction of the liver makes the body susceptible to a myriad of diseases, including skin and respiratory disorders. One particular ailment directly associated with a sluggish or backed-up liver is liver congestion. Learn some of the symptoms related to liver congestion, and the healing properties of rose oil in liver treatment.

  1. Cause and Symptoms

    • Excessive carbohydrates in the diet can lead to liver congestion.
Excessive carbohydrates in the diet can lead to liver congestion.

According to Health Guidance, symptoms of liver congestion include unusual fatigue, skin eruptions and unexplained weight gain. A sudden reduction of bile and/or the over-consumption of carbohydrates are noted causes of liver congestion, as the liver is responsible for carbohydrate metabolism. When glucose is increased, the liver becomes stagnant, thereby hindering proper function. The most common cause, however, is excessive toxins and waste in the blood. Preservatives, pesticides, mercury (from fish), excessive sodium and glucose are all typical toxins.

Rose oil is an ancient therapeutic element used for many ailments. "Rosa" is derived from the Greek word "roden," which means red. Medicinal properties of this exotic flower were first discovered during the 11th century by the Persians. According to Oils and Plants, rose oil has been used for skin, hair, libido, emotional and digestive disorders. Given its complex healing properties, rose oil, also known as "the Queen of oils," tones, cleanses, increases spiritual insight, and helps maintain self confidence. It further replenishes the liver and "stimulates the flow of bile," thereby promoting healthy digestion, among other things. For skin and respiratory ailments associated with liver congestion, rose oil is also effective, as it is a natural anti-inflammatory, astringent and antiseptic.

According to Health Guidance, the liver is for the most part, self-rejuvenating with the aid of diet modification and regular maintenance or detoxification. Natural therapies, such as liver flushes, are usually recommended in the earlier stages of liver congestion. However, should this condition persist, or if pain in the upper right region of the abdomen occurs, consultation with a physician is suggested. An in-office blood test can detect a malfunctioning liver. For preventative measures, regular detox is recommended. The use of particular herbs and flowers (rose, dandelion) with sufficient water intake are beneficial to flushing the liver.

According to Esoteric Oils, rose oil is a non-toxic, non-irritant and non-sensitizing healing agent, but should not be used during pregnancy. Reasons for these precautionary claims are unknown, and thereby unjustified.

    Liver Health Diets

To minimize liver stress, regular detox and a nutritional diet are crucial, as a diet rich in fiber promotes healthy liver function. Daily consumption of raw fruits and vegetables is highly recommended by Sandra Cabot, M.D. who asserts, "Eat plentiful amounts of raw fruits and vegetables, especially dark green leafy vegetables and orange-, yellow-, purple- and red-colored fruits and vegetables. Thirty to 40 percent of the diet should consist of raw fruits and vegetables. Try to eat some raw fruits or vegetables with every meal, as they contain living enzymes, vitamin C, natural antibiotic substances and anti-cancer phyto-nutrients." Hydrogenated oils and high glucose are detrimental to a healthy liver.
