Destination Weddings & Cozumel
Cozumel, an island off the Mexican Coast, is a popular choice for destination weddings. Its tropical weather, clear waters, world-class diving reefs and unhurried atmosphere have enchanted many bride and grooms for years. On the sunny shores of Cozumel, couples can get married in an elaborate affair, or an intimate ceremony with just a few family and friends as witnesses. Have your wedding on the beach, in a garden overlooking the ocean, or even under water.

Legal Requirements
-
Be ready with your valid original passport. If unavailable, present a birth certificate with apostille issued by the Secretary of State where the certificate is registered, accompanied by a valid, government issued picture I.D. Have the documents translated into Spanish by a certified translator in Cozumel. You are also required to submit a copy of your tourist card, final divorce decree (if applicable) and a blood test medical certificate, preferably done in Mexico, within 20 days of the wedding date.
Ministers
-
You can have a marriage ceremony performed by a Mexican official at the Civil Registry in Cancun, or a religious or non-denominational ceremony in any of Cozumel's romantic beaches. The Mexican ministers are all fluent in English so there is no problem communicating with them your ceremony preference or if you wish to say your own vows.
-
Witnesses
-
Cozumel law requires you to have four witnesses of legal age, 18 years or older. Witnesses who are American citizens need to provide a copy of their tourist card and valid identification, while Mexican nationals need to present a copy of their official I.D. For a certain fee, your hotel can also provide you with people to stand as your witnesses.
Wedding Packages
-
A number of Cozumel's resort hotels offer an all-inclusive wedding package: ceremony, reception, accommodation, honeymoon and handling of legal documents, as well as airport transfers. They also offer wedding package upgrades such as flowers, cake, wine, etc. Enlist the help of a local wedding planner so you can have your specific dream wedding package designed to your preference.
Booking
-
Destination weddings require considerable planning and ample time. Book your chosen destination in advance for better chances of reserving your preferred location and accommodation. Booking at least nine months before the wedding is recommended, as Cozumel is a popular wedding destination, and you will have to compete with several other clients.
