About Communication Effectiveness in Organization Technique

About Communication Effectiveness in Organization Technique thumbnail
Organization technique is as termed, "organizational development."

Organizational technique, also referred to as organizational development, plays an important role in the effectiveness of communication in an organization. The organizational technique is developed by the leadership of the organization and implemented by middle and lower-management. The technique will specify approaches to communication, policies and procedures that have an impact on the organization's culture and communication flow.

  1. Definition

    • Effective communication is the process where messages are sent accurately and understood by the recipient completely. Effective communication inspires people to action based on the information sent and received.

Organizational technique is a defined approach to how a team of people communicate, do business and operate as a whole. Organizational technique is also an assessment of the organization's effectiveness.

    Approaches

    • Organization technique has three main approaches: delegative, democratic and authoritarian. The delegative approach assigns certain tasks to groups of people, providing them with the free will to accomplish the task however they want. The democratic approach pulls the leadership and subordinates together to make decisions, gather feedback and implement change. The authoritarian approach gives the leader the power to make all decisions independently and subordinates are expected to follow the leader's direction.

    Role

    • The organizational technique plays a vital role in the effectiveness of the organization's communication. For example, if a company is vertically organized where upper-management provides directives that are to be followed without question or feedback, upward communication will be limited.

    Outcome

    • Effective communication in organization technique produces efficiency, productivity and satisfied employees. Effective communication provides the necessary information and tools needed to perform tasks and reach goals. This results in subordinates having greater direction, clarity and the steps needed to complete their objectives. Ineffective communication in organizational technique can lead to confusion, discord and low morale in employees due to lack of direction and clarity.

    Considerations

    • The type of organization plays a role in the communication effectiveness of its organizational technique. For example, an authoritarian approach may cause communication to be more effective for an E.R. doctor operating on a person than a manager of a retail store. The nurses and medical assistants need to take orders and instruction without question for the communication to be the most effective with the E.R. doctor. In a retail store, a democratic or delegative approach may be more effective, allowing feedback and questions.
