Transition in Flash 8 Image Effects
Flash 8 provides a number of ways to animate graphics, implement sound and video, and create user interfaces. The program allows vector and raster graphics to become moving images or text. It is widely used in websites and interactive games. A transition effect is commonly used in Flash to begin or end a particular scene, display information or add activity to an object.

History
-
Animation for web graphics dates back to 1987 when the GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) was introduced. This file format was used to create simple animations for use on the web. GIFs did not display smooth motion, and a transition effect would be a little rough. Using GIFs was the only way to display animation on the web until Macromedia introduced Flash to the public in 1996. Flash displayed animations in a movie-like fashion with smooth motion. Flash files are in the SWF (ShockWave Flash) format, and the raw file format used in the program is called an FLA file.
Fade Transition Effect
-
There are a variety of transition effects created with Flash 8. One of the most common is the fade transition. This transition is when an image fades in, remains still for a short period of time and then fades out of view. Sometimes multiple pictures are used in this transition effect. For example, one image will display and then fade into another image.

Creation
-
Creating a transition effect is accomplished in a short period of time. For example, a fade transition using multiple images would require the user to collect all the images and import them into the library in Flash 8 or import them individually from their computer. Each image is placed onto the "stage" in Flash. Images should have separate layers and be aligned so when one image is fading out the next image is beginning to fade in. Some transition effects are included in Flash 8 and are accessed in the top main menu of the program.
Uses
-
Flash transition effects are used throughout the Internet. Website banner and sidebar advertisements use Flash transition to draw a viewer's attention. Web-based games also incorporate the transition effect to enhance the overall gaming experience.
Advantages
-
There are many advantages to using transition effects with Flash 8. The particular transition effect used will depend on the project it is being used for. Transitions like a fade, cut or an iris transition can offer a smooth changeover from one image to another. An advantage to using a subtle transition is that it provides a smooth segue from one image to another. These transition effects are less obtrusive to the viewer and can enhance any website.
