What is an Exotic Angel Plant? thumbnail
Exotic Angels are brand-named houseplants.

Exotic Angel plants are plants that are cultivated and sold by Hermann Engelmann Greenhouses. Exotic Angel is a name brand. Exotic Angel plants have a red logo that distinguishes them from other plants you can purchase. Exotic Angel plants are cultivated as houseplants, so they are acclimated for indoor conditions. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Varieties

    • Hermann Engelmann Greenhouses specializes in tropical, exotic plants, and cultivates hundreds of varieties, including dwarf banana plants, jade, ivy, cacti, hoya, coffee, croton and many others. More traditional ferns, spider plants and ficus are also available as Exotic Angel plants. Even asparagus is available as an indoor plant through Exotic Angel.

    Light

    • Exotic Angel plants are cultivated to grow in the lower light quality and intensity provided through indoor growing. Plants like croton, hoya and ficus require a lot of light and should be placed in south-facing windows. They may also require additional artificial lights to thrive. Other plants, such as ferns and calatheas, can thrive in lower light, and they can be placed in windows that do not receive direct sun. If the plant has long, spindly stems and the leaves are far apart, it is not receiving enough light.

    Water

    • Yellowing leaves that drop off will denote overwatering, whereas wilting leaves indicates underwatering. Be sure there is proper drainage in your Exotic Angel, because they do not like to sit in water. Exotic Angel plants come in pots with holes in the bottom, however there may be a tray beneath so you cannot see the holes. Remove and drain the tray a few minutes after watering the plant. If there is brown around the leaves and especially on the leaf tips, mist the plant with a squirt bottle each week.

    Company

    • Hermann Engelmann started in 1971 as a greenhouse operation that cultivates and sells indoor plants. Today, Hermann Engelmann has over 250 employees in 2.8 million square feet of greenhouse that grow more than 400 varieties of indoor plants.

    Availability

    • Exotic Angel plants can be found at all upscale florists and garden centers. They are also available through grocery stores, discount merchandisers, home improvement chains and online. Exotic Angel plants will come with detailed instructions about how to care for them. Each variety requires different care considerations, so read them carefully.
