The section of Eastern Australia known as Queensland has many areas with excellent kite surfing, fit for all levels of kite surfers from learners to experts. Kite surfing is an exciting sport that combines elements of surfing, sailing, windsurfing and snowboarding.

  1. Seasons for Queensland Kite Surfing

    • Between April and November is the best time for kite surfing in Queensland. During this time, the winds are the most consistent and don't get overly gusty, which can throw off even the most advanced kite surfer. In addition, the water temperatures are the warmest during this summer season, and you can often go out in trunks and a rash-guard. Be wary of the sun's rays in this time, as well, as the rays are the strongest during these months.

    • Queensland has hundreds of areas where you can go kite surfing, but there are several beaches and rivers that stand out and deserve serious consideration if you go to Queensland. Caloundra Bar, near the city of Caloundra on the north coast, is a river that is best suited for the intermediate kiter. It is suited for freestyle kiting, but be be warned for heavy surfing crowds on the weekend. Kirra Beach in Coolangatta is suited for all levels of kiters. It has beautiful sandy beaches and is recommended during the weekdays, as the crowd diminishes drastically.

Highlighted points are to look for a clear area on the beach away from any people where you can launch your kite. Make sure you have someone around you who can help set up your kite and assist you. Certain beaches in Queensland have specific designated areas that inform you where you can and can't kite surf. Make sure you obey all posted signs.
