Violent political protests occurred in Bangkok in May 2010. Anti-government protesters clashed with police and security forces, resulting in the deaths of 40 people and destruction of the city. By May 21, most of the protests had subsided, and by May 24, all businesses and government offices were reopened. The city is once again safe for travelers, though caution and awareness are recommended should clashes reignite. The Majestic Grande Hotel, however, was not in the vicinity of these protests and was not affected by the violence.
