Identification
-
Air jet and water jet tubs are similar in appearance, but vary in the way that they create the jets and bubbles that distinguish a spa jet tub from a traditional bathtub. Unlike water jet bathtubs, which produce jets and bubbles using a mixture of both air and water, air jet tubs use air rather than water to produce these effects.
Benefits
-
Because air jet tubs do not require water to produce jets and bubbles, there is no need to install a separate water pipe for this purpose. Bath salts and oils can also be added to air jet tubs because air jet tubs do not circulate water, which means there is no danger of these substances contaminating the jets. Air jet tubs are also generally less expensive to install and maintain than water jet tubs.
-
Drawbacks
-
Air jets cannot be adjusted as easily as water jets, and do not provide the additional soothing warmth that water jets can. These types of tubs also lack the self-cleaning feature found in many high-end water jet tubs. Because the openings for air jets are generally wider then those for water jets, it is also easier for hair and small objects to become stuck inside of the vents.
Price
-
Both air jet and water jet tubs are similarly priced, although since air jet tubs do not require a separate water pipe, they are generally slightly less expensive to install. Low-end models of both types start at about $1,000 and range to as much as $10,000 for higher end models.
Considerations
-
Before you decide on any type of bathtub, it is a good idea to measure your available space and take note of the measurements and specification of the tubs that you are considering.
