What Is an FMF Exhaust?
FMF (Flying Machine Factory) is a leading American-based aftermarket motorsport product manufacturer specializing in exhaust systems for dirt bikes. Recognized for quality mufflers, headers and pipes, FMF exhaust products are a popular choice for dirt bike riders around the world. Swapping out stock exhaust for an upgraded system can increase horsepower, heighten sound, decrease weight and enhance aesthetics.

History
-
In 1973, Don Emler, a former US Suzuki factory motocross racer, founded FMF and sponsored a motocross rider named Marty Smith. The following year, Smith won the AMA 125cc National Championship under the sponsorship of FMF and American Honda. In 1985, FMF released its first plated exhaust pipes for motocross and off-road applications. In 1992, FMF released the plated Gold exhaust series. In 1995, FMF created a Gold series muffler for 4-stroke dirt bikes.
Dirt Bike Applications
-
FMF has three categories of dirt bike exhaust systems: 4-stroke, 2-stroke and Mini-Moto. Within each category are specific models of exhaust systems. As of 2010, FMF states the "Factory 4.1" exhaust system is the best they offer in terms of performance gains for 4-stroke dirt bikes and ATVs. According to FMFracing.com, the 2010 "Fatty Gold Series" is the company's best selling exhaust pipe because of its ability to increase power through the entire powerband. FMF also sells exhaust silencers for a quieter ride.

ATV Applications
-
FMF includes the same three categories for their ATV exhaust systems. FMF claims its "Megabomb" header can improve performance by up to 3 horsepower while reducing exhaust noise up to 1.5 decibels. For ATV riders interested in dropping vehicle weight, the "Titanium 4" racing exhaust system is its lightest available as of 2010.
UTV Applications
-
Utility terrain vehicles represent a small market in the motorsports world but FMF also supplies UTV owners with exhaust system options. All of the UTV inspired FMF exhaust products are built for 4-stroke motors.
Street Applications
-
As of 2010, FMF sells four different slip-on exhaust systems for street motorcycles. The carbon fiber "Apex" slip-on is designed exclusively for sport bikes.
