Qigong is a mind-body practice from Chinese techniques.

Stress and tension can flare up if you're at home in front of the TV, at work or behind the wheel of your car. Eastern practices, like Qigong, are gaining in popularity as our culture looks for new ways to reduce stress. Qigong is a mind-body practice that is meant to improve your mental and physical health by combining movement, postures, breathing practices and meditation.

  1. Significance

    • Qigong is the a Chinese "exercise" system of mental and physical training that helps in the areas of enlightenment, martial arts and health. Traditional Chinese Qigong is used for preventing and curing ailments. It is a disciplinary workout that assists in regulating the body, mind and spirit. Combining of all of these "life forces" helps to get your focus and soul aligned as well.

    Types

    • Qigong training has been broken down into four specific areas: dynamic, static, meditative and activities that require external aids. Dynamic training applies to exercise and involves special movement. Static training is when you hold your body in one posture for a period of time. Meditative training is when you focus or visualize on specific ideas or images. The training that requires external aids is when you use massages, physical manipulation, herbs or interactions. You need to understand all of these to become certified as a Qigong Instructor.

    Features

    • Classes for Qigong instructor training can be found in all parts of the country. Research classes online, such as with the National Qigong Association, and see what your area offers. Speaking with a Qigong instructor to see where he was certified is also recommended. Audit a class in your area if you can, as this can be a good tool to help you understand the course load. There are also courses available online, like with Qi-Healing, for Qigong training. You pay a tuition fee and they send you classes on DVD or VHS. Once the course is complete, providing that you pass, you can be certified to teach a beginning class in Qigong relaxation.

    Considerations

    • Qigong instructor training is an integrated process that is built step-by-step. Each class you take and each internship you begin will help to build on the experience you need to become a practitioner. The process nurtures you to evolve in order to help you become a part of an integrated health-care system. To become a certified instructor can be expensive, and will take focus and commitment.

    Benefits

    • With alternative health care gaining popularity, Qigong is poised to gain more mass appeal. This exercise can help anyone regardless of age or beliefs. According to the International Institute of Medical Qigong, Qigong helps to maintain balance, calm the mind, heal bodies, improve strength and clarity of the body and mind, maintain health, and reconnect you to your inner spirit. With results like these, Qigong practitioners will be more and more accepted in our mainstream society as we continue to grow and change as a culture.
