How Is Remi Hair Processed?
In the world of hair extensions, Remi (also called Remy) hair is prized because it looks the most natural when worn in extensions. Remi refers to the process by which the hair is collected, in which the cuticles remain intact and aligned in the same direction. If you're considering purchasing hair extensions, Remi hair will give you the longest-lasting, most luxurious look. Does this Spark an idea?

Definition
-
Remi hair is human hair, often from India, that has been shorn with the cuticles still intact. Unlike other hair used for extensions, Remi hair does not undergo the typical processing other hair destined for weaves undergoes. While Remi hair is not necessarily virgin hair in that it has been treated while on the donor's head, it is virgin hair in the sense that it does not undergo chemical treatments after being collected from the donor.
Process
-
Typically, donor hair is stripped off donors and thrown into piles with other hair destined for hair extension production. The problem with this process is that care is not taken to ensure that the cuticles of hair from a specific donor remain aligned in the same direction. This results in easy tangling. To combat this problem, most donor hair is stripped of cuticle by getting an acid bath. Silicone is then applied where the cuticles previously were. This gives extensions a smooth look. However, after extensions are washed on the head of the wearer, the silicone wears off and the hair tangles and mats easily, since the cuticles are not all facing the same direction.

Difference
-
Remi hair, on the other hand, remains shiny and natural looking, after being worn and washed, because it has not been damaged by the acid-bath process. And because care was taken in the production process to ensure that cuticles remain facing the original direction, hair does not tangle or mat any easier than the extension wearer's natural hair.
Benefits
-
The key benefit is that extensions made from Remi hair can be worn longer than extensions made with hair that has undergone traditional processing without the need to take extra care of damaged, chemically processed hair.
Types
-
Not all Remi hair extensions are produced exactly the same way, however. Single-drawn remi hair is hair that has been collected directly from a single donor, but that may be made up of different lengths of hair. On the other hand, double-drawn remi hair has been sorted to ensure that all the hair is of the same length. Because of the time it takes to sort through individual hair strands to ensure one length throughout, this is typically the most expensive type of Remi hair. Additionally, remi hair can be virgin hair or it can be previously treated hair (i.e., colored).
