Wedding Etiquette for Groomsmen
Contrary to popular belief, groomsmen do a bit more than simply show up to the wedding in tuxedos. The groom will typically choose his brothers, cousins and college buddies to be his groomsmen. While the boys will have a ton of fun together before and during the ceremony and reception, the groomsmen are also expected to help the groom carry out necessary tasks. Groomsmen should boost the morale of the groom. They should also help out the bride and groom with any problems that arise.

Attire
-
Groomsmen must be measured for their wedding attire and pick it up from the shop. Groomsmen are expected to pay for their wedding clothes. Cuff links are typically given to the groomsmen by the couple as a gift.
Budget
-
Each groomsman will pay for his own transportation to the wedding, lodging if he's staying overnight and a wedding gift for the couple. Collectively the groomsmen also pay for the bachelor party.
-
Bachelor Party
-
The groomsmen arrange the bachelor party for the groom. Bachelor parties can be wild and crazy or low-key and creative. Additional guests, such as brothers of the bride or groom who aren't in the wedding party, may also be included. A designated driver, taxi or limo service should be prearranged. The bachelor party should take place at least one week before the wedding. Bachelor party ideas include a day on a boat; a golf outing; beer and barbecue; or a typical night on the town.
Rehearsal, Ceremony and Reception
-
Groomsmen are expected to be present for the rehearsal dinner. During the ceremony they usher guests to their seats and escort the mothers of the bride and groom. They walk with the bridesmaids down the aisle at the ceremony and help move people along to the reception. During the reception, the groomsmen often have a dance with the bridesmaids.
Best Man
-
The best man is expected to make a toast during the reception. He also ensures that the groom has his marriage license for the ceremony. He gives the minister's fee following the ceremony (with money provided by the groom). The best man should also help the groom dress for the ceremony and oversee the ring bearer. He helps with luggage arrangements for the honeymoon and makes sure the groom has all the necessary travel documentation, if the couple is leaving straight from the wedding. He also checks on the rest of the groomsmen's boutonnieres.
