What is CRCC Certification?
CRCC Certification is an acronym for the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification, which is a non-profit organization that establishes an independent professional standard for rehabilitation counselors and counseling services. A counselor designated as a CRC is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor; a CCRC designation is a Canadian Certified Rehabilitation Counselor. The main goal of the CRCC Certification is to give society's disabled people the highest quality rehabilitation counselors available.

-
The CRCC provides rehabilitation counselors with a code of ethics which encompasses specific guidance on professional responsibility, accessibility, client advocacy, ethical concerns, the counseling relationship, evaluation and assessment, interpretation, confidentiality and business practices. Further, it sets internationally recognized rehabilitation counseling standards. The certification isn't required by other counseling or governmental organizations; however, it's so highly regarded that an overwhelming majority of individual counselors attain it voluntarily. The majority of CRCs practice in the United States, but there are certified counselors practicing throughout the world.

In 1973, the National Rehabilitation Counseling Association (NRCA) and the American Rehabilitation Counseling Association (ARCA) joined forces to create a non-profit joint committee on rehabilitation counselor certification, which they later renamed the CRCC. In 2010, the CRCC is the biggest rehabilitation counseling organization in the world, with more than 35,000 counselors certified since its inception, and 16,000 currently certified counselors.
CRC Certification
-
The CRCC asserts that professional certification is superior to state licensing because it's voluntary---whereas state licensure is mandatory. Additionally, the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) has long-accredited the CRCC. Rehabilitation counselors must meet high educational and specific professional experience requirements in order to become certified. The CRCC states that a "passing score on the CRC certification exam ensures that applicants meet nationally-accepted, key competency standards based on current practice in the field." Certified counselors must renew their certification every five years, either through retesting or completing 100 hours of continuing education courses.
