Emergency Disaster Training
Earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes and terrorist attacks are all types of emergency disasters that you can be trained to handle. The more information you have at home, the more likely your chances are of survival. In some disasters, it has taken days for help to arrive, so the better prepared you are will benefit you, your family and possibly some neighbors as well.

Significance
-
Hurricanes, such as Katrina that hit New Orleans, or an earthquake similar to the one the hit Northridge, California, in 1994 all bring one thing to mind: being prepared in case of disaster. Luckily, many volunteer organizations, the same ones that are the first on the scene of disasters, offer classes that you can take to be prepared in case an emergency disaster were to strike your hometown.
Features
-
With programs such as "Ready!" from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), classes have been made available and are abundant, as of 2010, not only from government agencies but through volunteer organizations as well.
-
Types
-
The Salvation Army offers classes that train you for emergency situations. Classes such as food handling, incident commands and safety are offered, and classes are taught by certified and skilled emergency response personnel. FEMA offers classes in all 50 states to help in preparedness for when and if disaster strikes. The American Red Cross also offers classes for certification and training.
Considerations
-
Preparation is key for any type of specific emergency or disaster. Natural disaster, terrorist attack, family emergency, wildfires are all disastrous situations that can arise on a daily basis. Having a first aid kit, knowing CPR or preparing an earthquake survival kit are all good ideas to help you feel more confident when taking your emergency disaster training classes.
Function
-
Skill in emergency disaster training will help you and others in your community to feel safer and more confident if a disaster was to strike. If something happens outside of the United States, your services are valuable. Volunteering to go and help rebuild a community and lend a hand because of your training is a priceless commodity.
