Laser Hair Removal Home Treatments
Men and women everywhere spend hours at home each month removing hair from their bodies, and even more time if they have to go to the physician's office for the process. Now, there are at-home laser hair removal treatments that provide a less expensive and more convenient alternative. Does this Spark an idea?

Considerations
-
Laser hair removal systems are intended for use on people with light to medium skin and dark, coarse hair. Because the laser is attracted to the dark pigment, people with darker skin tones are at a higher risk for skin burning and discoloration around the site of the laser. Two of the most prominent at-home treatment products are equipped with a skin tone sensor so you can test your skin tone prior to treatment. Simply hold the device up to skin and test. If the skin sensor test indicates the skin is too dark or tanned, it is not recommended to use the laser. Also, it is suggested users shave the area to treat first, so the laser will focus at the root of the hair.
Mechanics
-
During treatment, the laser targets the dark pigment in the hair, and the heat generated from the laser disables the hair follicle, causing the hair to gradually fall out and stop growing back. However, hair grows in cycles, and the hair will only be affected when in the growth cycle. So, six to eight treatments are recommended over the course of six to ten weeks to permanently remove the hair.

Results
-
According to an ABC news story, during the treatments, users can expect to see a light and feel a heating, tingling sensation as they press the laser hair removal device to their skin. Slight redness may be seen after use of the device but shouldn't last more than a few days. These are good signs and indicate the treatment is working. The tingling sensation is often compared to the light snap of a rubber band and is said to be less painful than waxing.
Availability
-
The various at-home laser hair removal products are available at a variety of locations including Neiman Marcus, Amazon.com and Bloomingdales. However, the average consumer might have to budget to be able to afford an at-home laser hair removal system because as of 2010 they range in price from $200 to $600.
Benefits
-
At-home laser hair removal is significantly less expensive than getting laser hair removal in a physician's office, which averages $429 in the United States, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. The products are readily available, easy to use and effective. However, the biggest benefit to at-home laser hair removal treatments is the ability to use them in the comfort of your own home. This means no more taking off work trying to squeeze into a doctor's busy schedule.
