Honey is a natural moisturizer for hair.

Hair can become dry and brittle due to the weather, over-exposure to heat from styling tools and over-use of chemically enhanced products. Often, women turn to home remedies to deep condition their hair in an effort to restore vitality and shine. In many cases, these natural recipes are more effective than expensive salon products.

Start

Beer

Beer gives hair sheen and luster. It contains certain proteins that repair damaged cuticles. After washing hair with shampoo and rinsing it clean, poor a can or bottle of beer over it and let it sit for a few minutes. Then, rinse. To prevent your hair from smelling too strong after using, choose a beer with a weak scent.

Mayonnaise

Mayonnaise is useful for deep conditioning, restoring softness to hair. Slather your hair in mayonnaise, massaging it from root to tip. Pile your hair on top of your head and wrap it tightly in plastic wrap. Then, wrap a warm towel around the plastic wrap. Keep the towel on for ten minutes before replacing it with another warm towel. The warmth from the towels will assist in the conditioning process. Rinse the mayonnaise out and then shampoo as normal.

Olive Oil

Olive oil contains mono-unsaturated fatty acids and antioxidants that moisturize hair, reducing frizz. Starting with your scalp, massage olive oil in. Knead it down to the tips of your hair. Wrap your hair in a warm towel for half an hour. Rinse and shampoo as usual.

Honey and Olive Oil

For another hair conditioning treatment containing olive oil, mix 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of honey. Heat the mixed ingredients in the microwave to soften it before applying it to your hair. Cover your hair with a warm towel for half an hour or more before shampooing it in warm water.

Honey attracts and holds on to water to help moisturize hair. This combination of honey and oil can also be added to your existing hair conditioner. When using honey to condition hair, it is important to use equal parts honey and oil so that the honey rinses easily from hair. Also, if used frequently, honey can lighten the hair. To avoid unwanted lightening, replace honey with molasses, using equal parts molasses and oil.
