Most employers require a bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration or a related discipline. Along with education and professional associations, employers require at least five years of recruitment experience and 10 years in management role for this occupation.

The director also oversees recruiting specialists, interviewers and administrative staff within a recruiting department. This involves training employees and setting recruiting goals, as well as implementing guidelines to ensure recruiting strategies align with the organization's policies and goals.
