Job Description of an HVAC Supervisor
HVAC technicians or mechanics perform heating, ventilation and air-conditioning work in residential and commercial buildings. An HVAC company provides services that control the inside environment of commercial and residential buildings. The supervisor in an HVAC company or building maintenance department of an organization directs the work of mechanics and technicians.

The supervisor of an HVAC crew is responsible for the distribution of work, the development of HVAC employees and estimating jobs. An HVAC supervisor implements procedures and methods to improve the quality of work performed by technicians.
Duties

The HVAC supervisor hires, terminates and promotes qualified HVAC technicians to work in the department. Employee-related duties also include maintaining employee work records, including information on absenteeism and job performance. The supervisor trains employees in new HVAC methods or arranges for training. An HVAC supervisor approves employee time off and time sheets for payroll purposes.
An HVAC supervisor creates estimates on new work projects, including information on labor costs and materials for jobs. The supervisor is responsible for implementing and enforcing safety policies in the department (employees may be required to attend safety training).
The supervisor is responsible for enforcing the department budget and, in some cases, may create the department budget.

Supervisors in an HVAC department or business must have skills in HVAC repair and maintenance. The supervisor must have written and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to lead others. The position also requires the ability to prepare and present budgets, reports and job estimates.
Education and Qualifications
