Pores are the skin's way to breath, naturally hydrate and exfoliate. When the pores become clogged for any number of reasons, they are no longer able to do their job. Milia are clogged pores that are closed to the surface. If bacteria gets into milia or blackheads it can cause acne to develop. Clogged pores are no longer able to breath and they cannot remove toxins, exfoliate or naturally hydrate the skin.

There are many ways to treat clogged pores. You can make lifestyle changes. Be aware of what touches your face. If you work in a public place where you hold a phone up to your skin, and other people touch this phone all day, wash frequently. Stop putting your hand up to your face, to brush away sweat with uncleaned hands. Be aware of touching your face, hold your face away from the phone and keep your environment clean. Eat a balanced diet and drink lots of water.

Use a mild facial cleanser. After cleansing use a mild astringent. If you do not get all your facial cleanser off you could be layering moisturizers, makeup and other products on top of residual cleanser, and this is a recipe for clogged pores. You should use an exfoliator weekly to prevent buildup of dead skin cells. Facial masks work wonders for clogged pores, deep cleaning and removing excessive oil. Monthly visits to the spa for facials are a good idea--spas do steaming treatments to unclog pores as well as offering cleansers and face masks.
