Bamboo Beads Information
There are two types of beads a bamboo bead can be. A bead made out of bamboo is called a bamboo bead, and the term can also refer to a specific bead shape. Bamboo beads of either type are stunning and make an impression no matter what type of craft they are used for.

Natural Bamboo Beads
-
Natural bamboo beads are crafted entirely out of bamboo. Crafters enjoy using bamboo beads for the low cost, sustainability of the material and the flexibility of the wood. Natural bamboo beads come in many shapes and sizes, as the wood is easy to shape and carve. Bamboo beads are also dyed or finished for a variety of textures and colors.
Bamboo Shape Beads
-
There are some beads that have a bamboo shape. These beads are made out of different types of material, but the long, thin tube shape resembles bamboo. Popular materials used for bamboo-shaped beads include semi-precious gemstones such as hematite and coral, Czech glass beads and lampwork beads.

Making Bamboo Beads
-
The Bamboo Craft website details the process to make bamboo beads. Bamboo is cut with a band saw, then sanded down for a smooth finish. A ruler or other measuring tool is used to control the size of the finished beads. Many commercially available bamboo beads are long and thin, but others can look almost like small seed beads.
Jewelry Uses
-
Bamboo and bamboo-shaped beads can be used in many types of jewelry. The relatively larger, uniform-size holes allow large-gauge wire and twine to be used for stringing. Smaller bamboo beads are available for crafters who use small threads or wire to make jewelry.
Decorative Uses
-
Bamboo beads aren't used only for jewelry. Bamboo bead curtains are used for doorways and consist of hundreds of bamboo beads. These beads are often dyed to make beautiful pictures or patterns for the doorway.
