Difference Between Pioneer Kuro & Kuro Elite
The KURO is a series of flat-panel high-definition televisions (HDTVs) from Japanese-based digital entertainment manufacturer Pioneer Corp. It is divided into two lines: the regular KURO version, and the more advanced KURO Elite version. As of June 2010, the PDP-5020FD and PDP-6020FD comprise the KURO lineup, while the PRO-111FD and PRO-151FD are their Elite counterparts.

Size and Resolution

The PDP-5020FD and PDP-6020FD have 50-inch and 60-inch screens, respectively, with the PRO-111FD and PRO-151FD as their KURO Elite versions. All share the same 1920 x 1080p resolution. While the 50-inch entries from both lines share the same physical dimensions and weight, the Elite version of the 60-inch set is slightly larger than its KURO counterpart.

Each Pioneer HDTV in the KURO series can play WMA9, MP3, Linear PCM (WAV), HE-AAC and MPEG-4 AAC digital audio formats. The KURO HDTVs each have a detachable-bottom two-way stereo speaker with an 18-watt digital amplifier. The KURO Elite ones also have digital amplifiers, but they have detachable side speakers instead of a lone speaker placed in the bottom.

Supported video formats are WMV9, MPEG1, MPEG2-PS, MPEG2-TS, MPEG4 (SP/ASP) and MPEG4 (H.264/AVC); while supported photo formats are JPG, PNG, GIF, TIFF and BMP. The KURO Elite HDTVs, however, have more than twice the amount of slide show effects of the KURO sets. Also, they have better video processing and scaling, heightened color calibration and far more controls for adjusting color displays.

Each Pioneer HDTV has four HDMI inputs that can support up to 1080p in resolution, inputs for component cable and S-Video, three inlets for composite cables, USB support, Ethernet support, a headphone jack, and the ability to connect with a PC. Pioneer includes an infrared repeater with the Elite versions.

As of June 2010, the original manufacturer's suggested retail price for the Pioneer KURO HDTVs are $3,500 for the PDP-5020FD and $5,500 for the PDP-6020FD. The KURO Elite sets are more expensive: $4,500 for the PRO-111FD and $6,500 for the PRO-151FD.
