A strong logo can help your company create a name for itself.

Some of the world's most famous brands boast logos that are immediately associated with that business. Companies such as Apple, Nike, and McDonald's have created logos that are so memorable they don't even require the brand name for the consumer to know what they represent. What is it that makes these logos so memorable?

  1. Image

    • If you use an image for your company logo, the type of image you use can make or break your logo. Something classic and simple won't become outdated in just a few years. However, a trendy logo that will later be associated with a certain era can make your company itself look old-fashioned and will therefore become unmemorable. Clip Art images are a bad choice for a logo as well. At the rate that technology advances, those images can very quickly begin to look outdated or cheesy.

    Colors

    • A logo that incorporates the same colors as other marketing materials will help customers associate that logo with the company automatically. For instance, the logo should match the website, Twitter and Facebook account, advertisements, direct mail, and business cards. This will help the customer's brain link back to your brand.

    Repetition

    • The key to using a logo to make a company memorable is repetition. When the logo is placed on every type of marketing material, commercial, and online promotion, the viewer will begin to associate the logo with the company. Consider the Nike logo as an example. Nike has been using their logo since 1971, when a graphic design student designed the famous "Swoosh" for only $2 per hour. Since the 70s, Nike has placed their logo on everything, incorporating the design with everything sports-related. Now the Swoosh is so memorable, and such a part of Nike itself, that it can stand alone, in any color, or black or white, and no words are even necessary.

    Communication

    • A logo that communicates the services that the company provides, and what the company stands for, helps the consumer to remember the company. Because it is often easier for someone to remember an image rather than a block of text, they may be able to immediately picture a company logo before they can remember the name of the company. That is why it is vital that your logo communicates what your business is about, either using an image or a font that communicates the message.

    Simplicity

    • A logo with clean lines that will look good in both color and black and white will make it possible for you to place your logo everywhere, which is a key to making it memorable. The consumer's brain will be able to better process a logo that is simple to read, understand and remember, rather than one with many different elements that the brain must sort through.
