Moon Sand Information

Moon Sand Information thumbnail
With Moon Sand you can bring the fun of the beach indoors.

Moon Sand is a toy similar to Play-Doh, but it is sand instead of dough. Moon Sand feels like sand and looks like sand, but it can be molded together without adding water. You can bring the fun of the beach into your home without creating a huge mess. Moon Sand is not recommended for children under 3 years of age.

  1. Uses

    • Moon Sand can be used to make sand castles, figures, and anything your child can think of. Moon Sand can be used over and over again. The official Moon Sand website guarantees that "The lifespan of Moon Sand is endless." According to the online newsletter, iVillage, "Moon Sand never dries out." You can preserve your child's sand creations by baking them in a conventional oven. Simply preheat the oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit, place the Moon Sand creation on a cookie sheet, and allow the figure to bake 30 minutes if it weighs half a pound or less, 60 minutes if it weighs a pound or more. Allow the Moon Sand to cool inside the oven. When you take it out, you can paint it with water-based craft paint.

    Kits

    • You can purchase Moon Sand in colors "Rocket Red," "Galaxy Green," "Planet Purple," "Space Blue," and "Lunar Yellow," according to iVillage. You can also buy Moon Sand in various themed kits. These kits include Sand Castle, Farm Yard, Pet Shop, Neighborhood, Monster Truck Play Set, Glitter Sand, Press 'n' Play School, Ice Cream Sundae, Pet Doctor, Diggin' for Dinos, Ponies, Amusement Park, Fairies, Cement City, Treasure Kingdom, Adventure Island, and Royal Castle.

    Safety and Maintenance

    • If your child eats Moon Sand, you do not have to worry, because it is completely nontoxic, according to the Moon Sand official website. Even though Moon Sand can be baked, you should never stick it in the microwave. When Moon Sand is exposed to heat for a prolonged period of time, it can lose some of its color and become hard. If this should happen, the official website suggests you simply crumble the sand in your hand as it cools to restore it.

    Storage and Cleanup

    • You can store Moon Sand in the original container or in your own plastic, airtight containers. Never wash the original container in a dishwasher, because it will be ruined. Wash it by hand with water. When your child is playing with Moon Sand, you should place a plastic sheet or a mat on the play area. If Moon Sand is on tables or floors, it could become slippery. If Moon Sand gets on the carpet, you can easily vacuum it up.

    Where to Buy

    • There are many ways and places you can purchase Moon Sand. You can buy it online or at a store. Online sources include MoonSandKingdom.com, eToys, and Amazon.com. Stores where you can purchase Moon Sand include Walmart, Kmart, Target, Toys"R"Us, A.C. Moore, and Michaels.
