A Web technician is responsible for maintaining a client's or company's website, Web apps and other Web-related content. These types of skilled professionals remain in demand as companies become more and more focused on an expanded online presence and providing more efficient services to customers.
Responsibilities and Tasks
Like many information technology positions, a Web technician's duties and responsibilities will depend largely upon the client, employer or project at hand. Some technicians, for example, will spend a majority of the workday designing, implementing and maintaining websites or database management systems. In other cases, the technician may create and manage Web applications for use in online and mobile environments.
While formal education is not always required, a Web technician certificate or an associate degree in a computer-related discipline provides an overview of the technical skills necessary. An understanding of various programming languages -- such as HTML, XML, Java, Perl, PHP and Flash -- is a must, as is experience with Web design tools such as Dreamweaver and Adobe Photoshop. These individuals must be highly analytical and able to communicate technical and complex information while juggling multiple projects, often with minimal guidance and supervision.
