Private Contractor Training

While private contractors are more known for the protective services they provide clients, many also offer private contractor training for individuals and teams. Contractors can instruct a wide range of clients in an equally expansive range of competencies, from purely offense- and defense-related ones to those that are logistical and planning focused.

  1. Private Contractors

    • Private contractors, also known as private security contractors, offer services that may involve the potential exercise of paramilitary or military force, as well as the elimination, transfer or enhancement of this potential and/or the knowledge that is needed to implement it, to their clients. As such, these contractors perform a wide range of functions from asset and personnel protection and risk analysis to logistics support, intelligence gathering and police, military and individual competency building.

Training for Police and Military Clients

    • Private contractors instruct police and military students in the use of force---the operation of various firearms and deadly weapons such as knives, hand-to-hand combat, covert and dynamic entries into sealed areas, vehicular assaults, the recognition and proper treatment of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and urban combat methodologies, among other topics. In addition, students are also instructed in other competencies such as restraint and control, hostage rescue, basic medical and trauma training and surveillance and counter-surveillance.

Training for Bodyguards and Protection staff

    • Contractors also provide private contractor training for bodyguards who may either be accompanying clients to unsafe areas or who need daily escort and protection service. As with military and police clients, such clients are instructed in the use of force, and other competencies are built as well. These include every aspect of the planning and operations cycle regarding entering hostile territory, such as the preparation of advance agents and advance site surveys, the creation of emergency reaction plans, various planning-focused competencies and so on.

    Training for Guards and Sentries

    • Private contractors can also offer more specific training for security guards or those assigned to sentry duty, whether in hostile or home territory. Instruction on basic guard duties are provided to these clients, along with those regarding the construction of secure facilities for those establishing a presence in hostile territory, lessons concerning the control and management of entry and exit points to buildings, surveillance and detection, conduction of vehicle and person searches and the maintenance of logs and incident reports, among others.

    Where to Get Trained

    • The services of private contractors can easily be located. Websites such as PrivateMilitary.org (see Resources) provide a venue for those interested to access information regarding private contractors, firms or companies. In addition, a wide range of private contractors like MPRI, MVM and Trojan Securities, which are able to leverage their skill and experience to provide private contractor training to build both defense-related and planning-focused competencies, can be accessed on the Internet.
