Angelic Hotel in Lourdes

Angelic Hotel in Lourdes thumbnail
Lourdes, France is a major pilgrimage destination for the Christian faithful.

In 1858, a 14-year-old peasant named Bernadette Soubirous envisioned 18 apparitions of the Virgin Mary in a Grotto near the Gave de Pau River in Lourdes, France. Since that time, Lourdes has become a major pilgrimage destination for Christians and Catholics. The Angelic Hotel, a three-star lodging, is one of more than 200 hotels that are available to house the more than 5 million visitors who flock here annually. The Angelic Hotel is in the heart of the Peyramale District, walking distance from sanctuary.

  1. Location

    • The Angelic Hotel is located on 2 rue du Calvaire, one block from the Gave du Pau River, a 10-minute walk to the Grotto and a four-minute walk to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. This district supplies several hotels catering to pilgrims and tourists, with restaurants, shops and cafes within walking distance.

    Rooms and Rates

    • Nightly rates include breakfast. Guests may include lunch or dinner on top of the room when making reservations. Rooms are carpeted, simply decorated and contain one single bed, two beds or three beds. Rooms include private bath and shower. Non- smoking rooms are available. Hotels in Lourdes are particularly full during the high travel month of August. Guests wanting to visit at this time are encouraged to book well in advance.

    Amenities

    • The hotel provides free wireless internet and a complementary shuttle to the Domain of the Grotto. A restaurant and bar are on site with sack lunch also available for sale. Children under three stay free and pets are welcome at no extra charge with approval from the management.

    Getting There

    • Due to the high volume of pilgrims and tourists that travel to Lourdes annually, several options for travel to the town are available. Visitors can fly into the Airport Tarbes, located 12-miles from the hotel and rent a car, hire a taxi or take the "Maligne des Gaves" Line No. 2 bus into town. Travelers who prefer journeying by train can arrive at the Lourdes Train Station, located less than one mile from the hotel. During the heavy travel season, between April and October, several trains, including the high-speed TGV, arrive and depart daily. This train station includes a Pavillion of the Sick, which administers immediate transport and care to ill passengers who arrive in Lourdes seeking healing from the sanctuary.

    Other Attractions

    • Aside from museums and religious sites of Lourdes, this area includes other sites of interests, including the Mauvezin Castle, and 11th century fortress located 19 miles from Lourdes. The castle is open daily for tours and includes a museum and several exhibitions along with a view of the Pyrenees and surrounding area. The National Museum of the Chateau de Pau is also located 19 miles from Lourdes and was the birthplace of Henry the IV. A one hour guided tour ornately decorated palace takes place daily with the exception of New Year's Day, Jan. 5 and Christmas.
