Recruiting coordinators plan and manage the recruitment of prospective candidates for job openings within an organization. The do interviews and screen potential job candidates to identify those most qualified. They are essential personnel within a company and often serve as the first contact for potential employees
Find the Right People
Recruiting coordinators recruit, screen, test and interview applicants to match them with job openings. They search for qualified candidates by attending job fairs, placing "help wanted" advertisements and networking. Recruiting coordinators may be required to write job descriptions for open positions within the company. Once a suitable candidate is selected, recruiting coordinators are also responsible for extending an offer to the individual.
It's All About People
Recruiting coordinators should be comfortable working with a variety of people and able to meet deadlines. They should also be good communicators and possess negotiation skills. Recruiting coordinators should also be creative in locating potential candidates.
Get Your Education
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, human resource professionals should possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business, human resources or sociology. Courses in marketing, social sciences and law are also recommended. Certification can be obtained through the Society for Human Resource Management.
The average annual salary for a human resource specialist, including recruiting coordinators, was $61,650 in 2013, according to the BLS. Employment is expected to grow much slower for human resources professions than for other occupations, according to the BLS, about 7 percent from 2012 to 2022. The average for all occupations is 11 percent.
A Look Into the Future
Successful recruiting coordinators can expect to have room for growth within their careers. Recruiting managers and human resource managers are natural progressions for recruiting coordinators. Recruiters in employment placement and temporary staffing agencies may have better opportunities as organizations outsource recruiting tasks.
