Company Training & Team Building

Having an effective staff is a vital aspect to creating a successful organization. The overall outcome of the organization hinges upon the abilities of those who will be doing the work. Companies use team building and training activities to make sure their staff is well-prepared. These programs are meant to develop such skills as leadership, communication and quick thinking. Companies integrate these programs through a variety of ways.

  1. Training and Team Building

    • No matter the type of organization, it's important to have a team that works together and has the skills needed to complete its task. Not only do successful organizations recruit individuals who have a strong experience background, but they also use training and team building programs to develop their employees. Training is important because it can also help maintain retention rates within the organization. Many types of training programs and team building activities are available for use.

    Types of Employee Training

    • Companies can use a variety of training programs to develop skills for their staff members. For example, diversity training may be declared mandatory to help staff members learn how to work with individuals of different backgrounds and cultures. Training helps employers create a staff that has the skills needed to be successful in its field. Training sessions can take place in a classroom setting or through online programs to be completed at employees' own time.

    Team Building Programs

    • Teamwork is an important part of any organization. If a group is to reach its goals, it must have members who buy into the cause and work together for it. However, this teamwork mentality is not always present at the formation. Groups use team builders to help develop the idea of teamwork. These programs are meant to teach individuals ways to communicate with team members, develop new ideas and support each other through trying situations. Examples of team building programs include a ropes course and the game called "All Aboard."

    Ropes Course

    • The ropes course is a team building exercise that consists of different challenges. The program uses obstacles created through rope formations. For example, the team must scale a rope wall while supporting teammates who act out physical ailments. Each challenge requires a different strategy. The team is given a set amount of time to devise a plan, then act on it. This program helps develop leadership abilities such as communication, delegation and critical thinking.

    All Aboard

    • "All Aboard" is a team building activity that develops communication and problem-solving skills. Create a makeshift "boat" using pieces of wood, carpet or tile. Have the group members stand on the boat, each getting her whole body on at least one section. Next, the activity leader begins to remove pieces of the boat, forcing the team to adjust and come up with new ideas to keep everyone alive. As members fall off the boat, they are eliminated. When everyone has been eliminated, the team can discuss how it felt to have to think on the fly while helping teammates make it through the trial.
