Facts About Adobe Photoshop
Since its first release in 1990, Adobe Photoshop has allowed users to edit photographs and digital images in stunning and strange ways. While some aspects of the program remain difficult to learn and complicated in their use, anyone can jump into Photoshop and alter an image with only a few clicks.

Layers
-
The true power of Photoshop's system rests in the layer options. This oft-copied system lets users manipulate one element of an image without altering the surrounding pixels. A layer can be a simple object or a complex image that lays over an entire snapshot. Combined, layers can form massively complex pieces while retaining the ability for quick and easy edits to single elements.
Filters
-
Perhaps the most visually familiar of Photoshop's features is the filter system. With a single click, users can transform an image to resemble a watercolor, a charcoal drawing, a mosaic, or any one of dozens of pre-defined visual overlays. With filters, even inexperienced users can make stylized photographs and artwork.

Extraction
-
Extraction is an equally familiar tool, capable of selecting specific sections and elements within an image and removing them for use in other images. With this tool, photographs can be given different backgrounds, and actors and objects find use in completely different settings.
History
-
Unlike most software's "undo" function, Photoshop keeps a history log of each action a user takes. The history displays alongside the editing space, so at any point users can restore the image, edit by edit, all the way to its original form.
File Format
-
Most image file formats, such as .jpeg, .bmp and others, permanently save any alterations. Photoshop natively saves files in .psd format, retaining all of the image's edits and corrections. PSD files are compatible with other Adobe products, such as Premiere and Aftereffects, as well as certain other image editing software. Photoshop also reads and saves most standard image formats.
