For this reason, it is advisable that anyone who handles a rental property receive training specific to property management. Each nation typically has accredited schools that provide courses specific to property managers. According to School Finder, the Property Management Training Association, or PMTA, is an educational institution based in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada. This organization has been providing courses to property managers since 1988 and is funded by managment companies, private sector donors and the Human Resource Development Council, or HRDC. The goal of the PMTA is to provide quality training in the region of Canada for the efficiency, profit and legal compliance of property operations.

The PMTA offers multiple expertise areas, according to School Finder. Examples of expertise areas include building security and commercial leasing. Seven different programs are available through a combination of these courses. Available programs include building security, accounting I, accounting II, commercial leasing, intermediate property management, property management career preparation and superintendent. Although these expertise areas are available, the PMTA prepares individuals for a management career at any property. Notedly, all classes are available online, with the primary language of instruction being English. This is an important consideration, since many Canadians are more fluent in French.

The courses offered by the PMTA are management level courses. They are not intended for those who have just entered the real estate field. School Finder states that anyone who wants to take courses from the PMTA should have business experience that relates to the coursework.
