A fountain pen is a pen containing an internal reservoir filled with liquid ink. A fountain pen relies on gravity and capillary action to draw the ink downward, and thus requires little to no pressure to write. Mont Blanc is a well-known, worldwide manufacturer of ink pens, that was founded in 1934. Mont Blanc recommends their fountain pens be cleaned at least every three months, or when the flow of the ink is sporadic or has stopped, or when the ink color is being changed.

Turn the cone, or top, of the Mont Blanc fountain pen counterclockwise to remove it.

Release the water by twisting the pen reservoir in a counterclockwise motion. Repeat the process until the water flows out of the pen smoothly.

Twist the pen reservoir in a counterclockwise motion to ensure all water is removed. Remove the pen from the glass or cup, and dry the tip of the pin using a lint-free cloth. Use the lint-free cloth to wipe the outside of the pen clean.

Place the cone, or top, back on the ink reservoir. Twist it clockwise to place back on the top of the pen.
