Lake Amistad, Texas and the Amistad Reservoir is dissected by the Mexican border. Half of the reservoir is in Texas, while the other half is in Mexico. La Amistad in Mexico houses the southern half of the reservoir. In addition to Mexican day-trips that are available to visitors to Lake Amistad, the area also features a variety of outdoor activities on the lake. Lake Amistad is located about 100 miles west of San Antonio.

Dry and mild are the words that best describe the weather near Lake Amistad. Even during the warmer summer months of June through August, the Lake Amistad area averages high temperatures that are between 82 and 85 degrees. RV air conditioners are helpful during these months, but there is still some relief at night when temperatures drip into the high 60s and low 70s. Winter camping in the Lake Amistad are is also relatively mild, as the coldest month of January brings average low temperatures that barely dip below 40 degrees. Lake Amistad is also relatively dry, with only September bringing a monthly precipitation of more than 2.1 inches.

Del Rio on Lake Amistad offers visitors attractions like the Val Verde Winery, which has been in existence since 1883. Alamo Village allows visitors to see re-enactments of historic battles, watch outdoor movies and experience musical shows and food festivals. Lake Amistad attracts visitors to its many outdoor activities like boating, fishing and swimming. Visitors to Lake Amistad can venture just a few miles south to Ciudad, Mexico for shopping, dining and sightseeing.
