Sober living can be a challenge. With the right tools and support you can find the process easier to accomplish. In Southern California, there are many different tools at your disposal in order to make the transition into sober living or help you continue on your sobriety path.

  1. Activity Change

    • Sober living means finding things to fill your time that do not include drinking. Sometimes finding new ways to fill your time when you give up alcohol can seem like an insurmountable task. But with the plethora of outdoor activities available, if you change your scope of fun you can find plenty of things to do from the sea to the mountains to cultural events.

Taking on totally new activities can be one way to forward sober living. Joining a hiking club, surfing group or rock climbing organization might find you so interested in your new hobby that you hardly think of the old ways. For those less active, consider cooking classes or an expanded idea of art as there are many opportunities to join these programs in Southern California.

    Network

    • The Sober Living Network might be able to help you along your way. Boasting more than 25,000 new members each year, this organization helps people find living arrangements that might make the transition easier. Aside from finding places to live, they also provide you a network of like-minded people with whom to spend your time.

    Testimonials

    • Another helpful idea is to peruse what other people who are sober have to say about their journey. Many of the Sober Living options provide testimonial pages. You can see what other people have started to do to shift their passion from alcohol to healthier living options. Finding friends who respect your choices will only further your ability to succeed in sobriety.

    Anonymous

    • With a huge outreach in Southern California, Alcoholics Anonymous has worked for many people year in and year out. Finding a meeting is as simple as going to the website.

    Religious Options

    • Church organizations can also be a place to find alcohol-free activities. Many churches in the area offer outings and opportunities to find fun without drinking. By surrounding yourself with others, it can be easier to do simple things such as dining out or attending ball games without the temptation to slip. You do not have to feel like you must entirely change your life; things you used to enjoy are still enjoyable without drinking.
