Quickbooks Bookkeeping Training
Any small business owner should be aware that accounting will take a third of the total hours dedicated to business operations. QuickBooks, the most popular software in use, reduces time spent on accounting, allowing a business owner to focus on aspects of the business that bring in revenue. There are training options available for business owners that have little to zero knowledge of accounting procedures, which are necessary to understanding how to use the QuickBooks software.

Certified QuickBooks User Options
-
The Certified QuickBooks User program is specifically geared to business owners or bookkeepers working for a particular business. These classes are meant to help solidify one's knowledge of the program through the training and a test that must be passed with a score of 80 percent or better. Those who pass the course earn a Certified User Certificate. There are three options available to take and pass these courses: the live class and exam, the self-paced online class and exam, and--for those who have two or more years of experience of using QuickBooks--the exam-only option.
The Live Class and Exam
-
The live class is taught by a third-party company called, "Real World Training." The course, entitled "Mastering QuickBooks" is a two-day course. Once you have completed the course you will be able to take the certification exam. These courses are very thorough and are a good option to learn QuickBooks for anyone. The drawbacks to this option are that the cost starts at $400 and the courses are not offered frequently.

The Self-Paced Option
-
The cost of this option is identical to the live class option, which starts at $400. The way this option works is that you register and pay the fee and you use the Mastering QuickBooks CD/DVD. Whether it takes you a few weeks or a few days, it's up to you. The material covered is identical to that of the live class. Once you complete the course, you may take the exam, which again must be passed with an 80 percent or greater score.
The Exam-Only Option
-
For those who have used QuickBooks for two years or more, they have the option of skipping the course and taking the exam without the benefit of the course materials. The advantage to this option is that the fee is only $150. The exam is the same for each option. Intuit, the makers of QuickBooks, recommends this option only for those who are very experienced in QuickBooks. If you choose this option and find that the exam is a little more detailed than your experience, you will have to pay the full $400 fee to take the course later.
The Benefits of Being a Certified QuickBooks User
-
Those passing the exam and becoming a Certified QuickBooks User will enhance their resumes. These users have access to online help and customer service that others do not have. There are monthly emails sent with tips to help improve your skills as a certified user, and discounts on ordering QuickBooks software and other Intuit products. Certified QuickBooks users are also entered into the Intuit database for online referrals to business owners in their area. They also receive online QuickBooks resources that others don't.
