Information About the Beaches in Puerto Rico
With the sun-filled months of summer approaching the Caribbean, people who live in colder, or more mundane climates, will be traveling to the warmer, more relaxing, areas around the equator. Popular destinations are coastal areas, mainly because of the beaches offered. Puerto Rico, like other Caribbean travel destinations, combines a warm and tropical climate with the scenery of white-sand beaches. And Puerto Rico's beaches offer many different types of uses, scenery, and locations.

Types

The two types of beaches found in Puerto Rico are public and private. Public beaches are found in national parks, and can be freely attended or camped at for a fee. Private beaches are either owned by individuals, or corporations, such as local or national hotels, and are reserved for hotel guests.
Flamenco

Located on Culebra, Flamenco Beach is a campground administered by the Autoridad de Conservacion y Desarollo de Culebra (ACC). Flamenco allows camping ($10 per tent) and offers picnic areas. To get to Culebra, you can fly from San Juan, or take a ferry from Fajardo. As the destination is popular in the summer, reservations are necessary.

Luquillo

An area that has not yet been developed, Luquillo offers a campground, with wildlife sights and bicycle rides. Rain Forest Safari does advise to not camp here in the winter, as the area may not be safe when deserted.

Seven Seas

Located in Fajardo, Seven Seas beach is protected and managed by the Puerto Rico National Park service. Access can be by motorized vehicle or on foot through road 987. The beach does offer camping, in an adjacent park, and wildlife sights, in the Seven Seas Nature Reserve.

Isla Verde

Close to San Juan, where the Ritz-Carlton is located, and the Caribbean National Forest, the Isla Verde offers para-sailing, waterskiing, surfing, and snorkeling in the offshore coral reef.

Escambron

Located in San Juan County, Escambron beach offers swimming, fishing, boating, and hiking on the Shoe Line Trail. Escambron is also close to the Condado beach, which is near the Rio Puerto Nuevo.
