What Is Dell Support Center Software?

When you own a Dell laptop or PC, Dell provides a free piece of software that will provide self-help guidelines, tools, system information and other troubleshooting components. It also includes software updates and updated drivers for your hardware. When connected to the Internet, the software checks for new updates and items relevant to your PC or laptop.

  1. Installation

    • Navigate to the Dell Support Center software page (see Resources. Download the appropriate version of the Dell Support Center. You have the choice between a 32- or 64-bit version. Run the downloaded executable file and follow the installation instructions via the Setup Wizard.

    Initial configuration

    • Read and accept the License Agreement so that you can complete the installation. Check the appropriate options when asked whether you allow or not:
      - Your system to receive updates and alerts from Dell
      - Dell Support Center to collect your service tag (Dell's unique identifier assigned to your system)

      Click on "Next". Dell Support Center will continue processing and complete the setup

    Dell PC Checkup

    • Click the Self Help icon. Select the Automated Scan icon that will own up the Dell PC Checkup. The Dell PC Checkup is a diagnostic and troubleshooting tool. It can scan and test your hardware and detect fixes for common issues on your PC or laptop. Click on "Run Default Scan" to run PC Checkup with default options, which are good for most users. Click on "Run Custom Scan" for the option to customize your PC Checkup.

    Dell Connect

    • Click on the icon "Assistance from Dell" to find Technical Support. Click on the Dell Connect icon and you will be taken to Dell Connect. Follow the instructions on the Dell Connect website to setup a remote session with a Dell technician. The Dell Connect service allows a Dell support agent/technician to connect to your system via the Internet to troubleshoot it. You need a high-speed connection, and your Dell system must be under warranty.

    Drivers

    • Click on the Drivers and Downloads icons. It will direct you to the Dell Drivers and Downloads website. Your service tag should be automatically detected and the drivers specific to your system will show on the screen.
