How Do Judgments Work?
The paladin is a hybrid class capable of performing any of the three group roles in World of Warcraft online game. As a tank they control MOBs (Monsters or Beasts), as healers they maintain the health of their party, and as DPS (damage dealers, literally damage per second) they are capable of dealing incredible amounts of melee damage. They perform their duties by casting a seal on themselves, and then judging their enemies. Different combinations of seals and judgments are required depending on the fight and class spec.
-
Seal
-
A seal lasts 30 minutes, and only one can be active on any paladin at any time. Some seals, such as Seal of Command, are available only to paladins with talent points allocated deeply into the Retribution tree. Different seals become available as the paladin advances in levels in the game. Seals perform different functions, from returning a percentage of mana or health to the paladin per hit, to dealing damage to multiple targets. Every seal has a description of its effect when judged written in its tooltip, which can be read by pressing the P key to open the spellbook where the seals are stored, or by mousing over the seal on the casting bar to display the tooltip.
Judgements
-
There are three judgments available to the paladin, all of which last 20 seconds when cast on the enemy. The Judgment of Light has the chance of healing the paladin for 2 percent of their maximum health. The Judgment of Wisdom restores 2 percent of the paladin's base mana (the amount before item effects, talents and enchants, depending on class). The Judgment of Justice can be absolutely vital to a group's survival, as it impairs an enemy's movement and prevents it from fleeing.

Tankadin
-
"Tanking" paladins from the Alliance generally want to use Seal of Vengeance; the Horde equivalent is Seal of Corruption. The more stacks allowed to accumulate on the MOB, the more damage dealt. This is an excellent ability to generate threat when tanking. The passive application of Holy Vengeance with each swing stacks up to five times, and every application deals an additional 161 Holy damage.
Healadin
-
The seal of choice for the healer is Seal of Wisdom: it restores mana, which is important for all paladins, and absolutely vital for casting healing spells. Healing paladins can also use the Judgment of Wisdom to help regenerate their mana pools. Healing as a paladin can be incredibly useful in a tight spot, as they are the only healers who can wear plate mail, so they can take a hit or two if things go wrong.
Retadin
-
Retribution paladins require the flexibility of switching between Seal of Command and Seal of Vengeance/Corruption. The Seal of Vengeance deals major damage, just as it does with "tanking" paladins. The retribution-specific Seal of Command is used in group fights; it adds holy damage with each swing equal to 36 percent of the weapon's normal damage. The damage will also hit two nearby enemies. It is not a spell effect, but considered melee. Paladins can boost the Seal's power by collecting gear with stats that will increase melee critical strike chance, and it will deal double damage on critical strikes. The DPS paladin might score lower on the DPS scores than other classes (a limitation that all hybrids must cope with), but they have the benefit of gaining levels quickly, and being as dreaded in PvP (player vs. player) as Affliction Warlocks.
