Volkswagen Phaeton Safety Information
The Volkswagon Phaeton was first introduced in 2004 to compete against other luxury sedans on the market. The Phaeton contains numerous standard safety features on all models, including high-tech features such as Auto Crash Notify, front and side assist, and an Electric Stabilization Program, or ESP. Classic safety features such as seat belts, anti-lock brakes and anti-theft alarm systems are also offered on Phaeton vehicles.

Standard Safety Features
-
A tire pressure monitoring system is one of many safety features. The Volkswagon Phaeton comes standard with both side-curtain and side-impact airbags as well as anti-lock brakes. A tire pressure monitoring system, automatic headlights, traction control, anti-theft and panic alarm also come standard. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will require all vehicles that are 10,000 pounds or less to be built with an Electronic Stabilization Program for the 2012 model year. However, the VW Phaeton made this a standard feature as of 2009. Prior to this, the Electric Stabilization Program was a $450 option.
Electric Stabilization Program
-
The Electric Stabilization Program, which is standard on all Volkswagon Phaetons as of 2010, is an electronic aid that prevents a driver from losing control of his vehicle. The ESP detects when a driver has gone off an intended path and temporarily slows down the car by braking one or more of the wheels. If need be, the ESP will also reduce the engine power. The ESP is designed to prevent accidents by Phaeton drivers.

Auto-Crash Notify
-
The Auto Crash Notify system alerts emergency assistance Volkswagon Phaetons also offer an Auto Crash Notify system for all models since 2004. The Auto Crash Notify system automatically contacts emergency assistance in case of an auto accident. The system also identifies the location of the crash to the rescue team. In the event that your Phaeton breaks down, or obtains a flat tire, the Auto Crash Notify system will notify the emergency call center.
Side Assist
-
The Phaeton also offers a lane changing assistance option, or side assist, as part of its safety package. Using radar sensors, the side assist monitors car activity on either side of the Phaeton, as well as behind it. Beginning at 60 km/h, the sensors, located in the rear bumper, alert the driver if a possible collision is about to take place. A warning signal appears in the rear-view mirror of the vehicle. The sensors have a monitoring range of 50 meters behind, and 3.6 meters to the side of the Phaeton.
Front Assist
-
The Phaeton also comes with front assist, a safety feature designed to prevent rear-end collisions, in which a radar sensor detects the distance between the Phaeton and the car ahead of it. If the Phaeton becomes too close to the car ahead of it, the driver is warned. This feature can be activated, or turned off, by pressing the "On/Off" button located on the left side of the steering wheel. Once activated, the Phaeton will automatically slow down, or stop, if the vehicle is too close to the car ahead of it.
