Jordan is a nation that is located in the Middle East. It is an Arabic-speaking country that is surrounded by Israel, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Iraq. Jordan's capital city is Amman. The country has a strong tourism industry, and welcomes millions of visitors each year. Jordan has many popular ancient historic sites, desert castles and other religious and cultural attractions.

  1. Religious Landmarks

    • Religious landmarks are very abundant in Jordan. Many tourists visit Jordan to view the nation's many religious sites. One of the most well-known places for viewing religious landmarks in Jordan is Madaba, which is also commonly known as the City of Mosaics due to its Byzantine mosaics. The East Bank town is notable due to the fact that, underneath most of its residences, are mosaics. Other popular religious sites in Jordan are Mount Nebo and the River Jordan, which both have biblical significance.

    Ancient Sites

    • Jordan has many ancient sites that are popular with tourists. Some of its most celebrated ancient sites include Ajlun (home to Ajlun Castle), the city carved within the mountains known as Petra and Jerash (which is notable for its Roman architectural style, outdoor theatres and Corinthian arches).

    Dead Sea

    • The Dead Sea is one of the planet's most well-known scenic landscapes. It is known for being the location of the earth's lowest body of water, as well as its lowest point in general. The Dead Sea is also the planet's most abundant natural salt resource. It is approximately half an hour away from Amman.

    Amman

    • No trip to Jordan is complete without some time spent exploring Amman. Amman is a contemporary metropolis that effortlessly blends the past with the present. The city's commercial district is full of art galleries, restaurants, hotels, coffee shops and artisans' workshops. Amman's downtown is historic and full of tiny businesses that specialize in everything from household products to arts and crafts. Some of the city's most popular tourist attractions include the Jordan Archaeological Museum, the Royal Automobile Museum, Abdoun Mall, the Gold Souq and Swaifeih Avenue.

    Nature

    • Jordan is also home to various nature reserves, many of which are popular with tourists. Some of the nation's most visited nature reserves include the Shaumari Wildlife Reserve, the Dana Biosphere Reserve and the Mujib Nature Reserve. The nature reserves showcase the country's vast natural beauty and wildlife, with everything from wetland oasis' and horned ibex mountain goats to vast mudflats and sand dunes.
