The job of a college recruiter plays an integral role for the college or university. In general, college recruiters tend to have similar responsibilities across the United States. However, some parts of the job vary depending on the type of college, its goals and the size of the school.

Responsibilities

This job involves quite a bit of travel and may require the employee to work nights and weekends, depending on the month or events.

  • College recruiters visit high schools and set up events for prospective students. When an organization (high school, college or other) hosts a career or college fair, college recruiters attend to represent the ideals, academics and lifestyle of the colleges for which they work.

Programs

  • College recruiters also set up events for the students currently living on campus. A college recruiter will often prepare students entering college for the first time by setting up orientation programs during the first semester.

  • Prospective college recruiters should complete a college education. In some cases, a job may require a master's degree in business administration (MBA).
