Mirapex Claritin-D Safety
Mirapex is used to treat early-stage Parkinson's disease and restless leg syndrome. A non-ergoline dopamine agonist, it is sometimes used to treat cluster headaches and counter sexual dysfunction that can occur in some users of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.
Claritin-D is an over-the-counter medication that treats hay fever and allergies affecting the upper respiratory tract. It reduces nasal passage swelling and relieves itchy, tearing eyes and sinus congestion and pressure temporarily, making it easier to breathe.

What They Contain

Mirapex is a synthetic amino-benzathiazol derivative that helps restore homeostasis of dopamine levels in the brain. It is a dopamine agonist. It improves conditions in advanced Parkinson's disease and levodopa-induced motor fluctuation when administered with levodopa.
Claritin-D contains loratadine and pseudoephedrine. The former is an antihistamine which reduces the body's own histamine levels, and subsequently, itching, watery eyes, running nose and sneezing. The latter decongests the nasal passage by shrinking its dilated blood vessels.
Contraindications

Mirapex is inadvisable if an individual has narcolepsy, dyskinesia (tremors), and kidney disease or uncontrolled muscle movements. The effect of Mirapex on pregnancy is unknown, so it is prudent to obtain a physician's advice before taking the medication.
Claritin-D is not recommended if an individual has liver disease, narrow-angle glaucoma, coronary artery disease, extremely high blood pressure, or has difficulty urinating. Claritin-D is also contraindicated within 14 days of consumption of monoamine oxidase inhibitors. Blood pressure medication like beta-blockers may also affect the efficacy of Claritin-D.

Side Effects of Mirapex

Some of the better-documented side effects of Mirapex are increased sexual urges and strong compulsions to gamble or eat. It can also cause a person to suddenly fall asleep despite feeling alert. This can be dangerous if a person is driving or operating heavy machinery when it occurs. Some people may feel dizzy when they get up too quickly from a sitting or lying position.
Side effects necessitating immediate medical attention are extreme drowsiness, hallucinations, stiff muscles, confusion, fever, sweating, tachycardia/arrhythmia, fainting, light-headedness or restless muscle movements in the eyes, tongue, jaw or neck.
Side Effects of Claritin-D

This medication can result in blurred vision or impaired mental function. Alcohol consumption increases some side effects. Its antihistamine component can also skew the results of allergy skin tests.
Other side effects include nausea, stomach pain/upset, dry mouth, a feeling of warmth, redness or tingling sensation under the skin, insomnia, itchiness, rashes, drowsiness, dizziness, concentration/memory problems, mild tinnitus, restlessness or excitability.
The following side effects warrant medical attention: tachycardia, arrhythmia, mental confusion/ impairment, hallucinations, severe dizziness, anxiety/restlessness, very high blood pressure, easy bruising/bleeding, malaise, chills, fever, flu symptoms, aches, or oliguria/anuria.
Effects of Combining Mirapex and Claritin-D

Allergy medication such as Claritin-D can intensify the sedative effects of Mirapex. The same can happen if Mirapex is taken together with anti-depressants, medication for anxiety or seizures, pain-relievers and muscle relaxants. As with Claritin-D, alcohol consumption can increase the side effects of Mirapex together with consumption of Claritin-D. The sedative effects, dizziness and drowsiness that can occur if Mirapex is consumed with Claritin-D can be dangerous and it should never be done with prior consultation of a physician.
